Gear manufacturing is a complex subject and little material is around. This course aims to provide the key concepts on gear manufacturing with an extremely practical and concrete approach
Description
Basics of Gear Manufacturing
Mechanical transmissions are everywhere: you can find them in your bicycle, car, motorcycle, but also in planes, helicopters, wind turbines and many other devices.
Specifically, gears are the most common elements in a mechanical transmission.
Gear is an healty industry, and a lot of material can be found relating to gear design. However, this is not true regarding the manufacturing knowledge.
This course aims to provide the key concepts on gear manufacturing with an extremely concrete approach.
The course is divided into 2 parts:
- PART 1: introductory concepts on gears, in which basic information is provided regarding the classification, nomenclature and standards in use in the gear industry
- PART 2: gear manufacturing, in which the student is introduced to the production sequence, focusing on the key processes of the toothing
Although a minimum of technical skills certainly represent a benefit, however this course does not require any prerequisites: the cut that has been given is deliberately self-explanatory.
Below are the lessons, topics and quizzes of the course that can be accessed at any time.
At the end of the lessons, a final summary will help focus the key concepts of the course in preparation for the final test.
After passing the test, a certificate of achievement will be issued.

I started my career as a Manufacturing Engineer in the aerospace business, where I had the opportunity to manage the industrialization of mechanical transmissions for American and Canadian companies, leaders in the production of aircraft engines. Then I moved to Germany in different companies, where I had the opportunity to develop manufacturing and assembly methods, technologies and processes. Among the main activities, I managed the design of a new assembly facility. Here, I also had the opportunity to broaden my knowledge and areas of expertise by scouting for…
